FINRA

I led a team of 9 creatives who were service designers, UX researchers, visual designers, and illustrators in collaboration with FINRA to reimagine their 15 year old investor education tools. Over 10 intensive weeks, we transformed static risk assessments into engaging, educational experiences that empower investors to identify fraud and make smarter financial decisions.

FINRA Case Study

TL;DR

Problem

FINRA’s current Scam and Risk meters are based on architecture and user behaviors from 2005. Because these tools are over 20 years old, they are fragmented, static, and no longer align with how modern investors interact with the digital market. This creates a significant 'engagement gap' where the people who need protection the most are unable to effectively use the tools designed to save them. Our goal is to transform these current tools into a unified, modern experience that meets today’s investors where they actually are.

FINRA's current Scam meter tool

Solution

"We didn't just build a quiz, we co-created a 'safe sandbox' for learning through two distinct, high-impact tools within the FINRA's system.

  • Tool 1: The Risk Meter: This tool maps the user's personal investor mindset and risk tolerance through narrative-driven scenarios .

  • Tool 2: The Scam Meter: This tool tests the user's ability to spot real-world fraud—like fake IPOs or influencer 'guarantees'—using behavior-driven questions .

We moved away from immediate feedback to keep the user engaged in the journey. Now, everything leads to a detailed report at the end that gives a score out of 100. To keep users in the FINRA ecosystem, the report identifies their 'Areas of Low Awareness' and links them directly to tailored articles and videos, giving them a clear path to improve their financial IQ .

Impact

The final presentation was a total win. FINRA immediately moved the solution into development, and it’s currently scheduled to go live in Q1 2026. By moving from 'just a score' to a 'learning ecosystem,' we created a sustainable model that builds real-world cognitive resilience for millions of investors.

CONTEXT

01

Who is FINRA?

FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) is a not-for-profit self-regulatory organization authorized by the U.S. government to oversee member brokerage firms and protect the investing public . Their mission is to ensure that everyone can invest with confidence by analyzing billions of daily market events to catch fraud and provide essential investor education .

What is a SCADPRO?

SCADpro is a high-stakes innovation studio where elite brands like FINRA partner with SCAD to solve complex, real-world business challenges. Leading a multidisciplinary team in this professional agency environment carries literal manager-level pressure and is notoriously difficult even for top-tier students. While it is extremely rare for student concepts to move into actual production, the FINRA Resilience Framework is a truly exceptional case it was so successful that it is currently under implementation for a Q1 2026 global launch.

My Role & Responsibilities

Multidisciplinary Team Leadership

Led a team of 9 across Research, Marketing, Graphic Design, UX, Service Design, and other disciplines, guiding them on specific timelines and deliverables to ensure total alignment across all design phases from discovery to final handoff.

Product Ownership

Owned roadmap creation, task allotment, and team management across multiple cross-functional teams. Structured sprints and workflows to ensure seamless collaboration and timely delivery of project milestones.

Executive Stakeholder Engagement

Served as the primary liaison for 4 C-level stakeholders, a Principal Design Strategist, and a UX Manager at FINRA, conducting interviews to align their corporate goals with user needs.

End-to-End Marketing Strategy

Entirely owned the marketing research and strategy, defining the "Smarter with FINRA" positioning and architecting the social media roadmap for the Q1 2026 launch.

Strategic Alignment & Persuasion

Responsible for convincing stakeholders of key strategic pivots—such as the transition from immediate feedback to a comprehensive learning ecosystem—ensuring the final solution met both regulatory and user requirements.

Behavioral Research Mastery

Led the synthesis of 16 in-depth interviews and quantitative surveys to identify the "Worry Paradox" and the "Learn by Losing" mentality as the core strategic pillars.

AI Implementation Leadership

Pioneered AI-integrated solutions using Prompt Engineering with Gemini 2.5 Pro, Whisk, ImageFX, Runway, and Perplexity. Developed high-intensity JSON-structured prompts to generate high-quality AI-driven storyboards and educational video content.

Systems Architecture & Design Ownership

Engineered the dual-tool logic for the Risk Meter and Scam Meter and took full ownership of the design system to ensure it met professional enterprise standards.

Research Methods

With a vast array of research methodologies available, the first strategic challenge was curate a high-impact toolkit that could diagnose the root causes of investor friction within a condensed 10-week timeline. Research Synthesis

While we had more than 700 data points it the synthesis was one of the most critical parts, I remember trying to figure out the best ways to synthesize this data but honestly there were no shortcuts and this huge synthesis would have not been possible without my team who spent hours and late nights with me in the building endlessly distributing tasks between each other, grouping and getting things done.

Affinitization Workshop

We conducted affinitization workshops to cluster hundreds of research data points into actionable themes. Which inturn gave us a lot of clarity on the opportunities.

Snapshot of a section of our affinitization workshop

How might we?

Through all the clusters to get a more focused vision we decided to cluster the findings from the affinitization session and generate how might we questions.

Priortization Matrix

Taking all the how might we questions into consideration and comparing it with the timeline I knew we needed to narrow down our scope for the opportunities and decide what hmw's to take forward and which ones to discard. While this was a critical moment I suggested my team that let's create a 2x2 that will be impact vs effort, more the effort the harder the task to finish within the timeline, and less the impact less the worth for user. Finra stakeholders loved this approach and this was the key moment that gave us the final opportunities.

Click here to visit the miro board

Results

Through this intense process, these are the 3 major opportunities we considered to work on, discussed with the stakeholders, got approval and praises for synthesizing the huge data set and we were set to move forward.

How might we make complex financial data easier to understand without overwhelming users with text or technical jargon?

How might we elevate the clarity and actionability of the platforms through updating visual design

How might we evolve the quizzes into engaging learning tools that help users make smart, confident decisions?

OPPORTUNITIES

05

Crazy 8

The goal was to stop overthinking. By moving that fast, we were forced to push past our first, obvious ideas and come up with more creative and unexpected ways to solve our design challenges. It was about quantity over quality in the moment, helping us explore how to better show things like "scam percentages" or "risk scores" in a way that wasn't just a wall of text .

Character ideations

While we were still trying to use Finra's mascot, designing for the character was something that was a great task, I saw this as a great opportunity to use finley to grab the GenZ's attention.

Finalised Design Strategies

These were the finalized design strategies and the team presented in depth to the stakeholders and gave them an option of mix and match as well providing guard rails.

SOLUTION

06

With all the intense process and going through endless revisions and doing stakeholder meetings, co-creation sessions we finalized a design that had the fun element integrated but followed the professionalism of FINRA considering the brand values and reflection FINRA reflects.

Solution 1 : Risk Meter

The modular questionnaire

This modular quiz questionnaire screens the user initially to identify areas he is exposed to for financial risks. Based on the the conditional quiz caters questions personalised for him based on the behavioral and the initial screening assesment.

LEARNING

08

Ultimately, this project taught me that true leadership is about moving upstream. We didn't just fix a tool; we designed a pre-emptive shield. I walked away from this experience with a deep understanding of how to manage high-velocity teams to solve systemic problems. We didn't just give the user a score; we gave FINRA a way to build investor resilience as a scalable, modular service.

Challenge

Challenge

ShopNOSCO was a B2B e-commerce platform that shipped to 40+ countries and managed over 900 product numbers impressive on paper, right?

But under the hood? It was dragging. Think slow load times, cluttered layouts, confusing nav, and a checkout process that felt like a mini escape room. Users were bouncing, conversions were flatlining, and the whole thing felt like it needed a UX defibrillator.

Action

Action

We didn’t just slap on a prettier UI and call it a day.

First, we rolled up our sleeves and got deep into the data GTMetrix audits, stakeholder interviews, support tickets, customer surveys, and enough redlined UX screenshots to wallpaper a room. We mapped the journey across five user roles, ran co-creation sessions, then tested like mad.

The result? A one-step checkout, simplified navigation, and a modular design system that actually made sense — all designed to move faster, feel cleaner, and scale smoother.

Result

Result

The glow-up was real.

Load speed jumped by 34%, GTMetrix gave us a gold-star 98%, and task completion times dropped by 40% (because no one wants to fight a form at 5PM).

87% of users gave us positive feedback which, for enterprise software, is basically a standing ovation.

The improved flow also brought down cart abandonment and gave the internal team a scalable system they could finally build on without duct tape and prayers.

Impact

Impact

Faster, cleaner, and finally usable the revamp didn’t just “look better,” it delivered hard results.

We saw a 34% bump in performance, 40% faster task completion, and a cart abandonment rate that actually went down for once.

GTMetrix gave us a 98% score, and 87% of users gave us the thumbs up. Internally, the design system cut dev turnaround times and helped the team scale across 150+ screens without breaking into cold sweats.

TL;DR

Problem

Modern investors are currently trapped in a massive 'crisis of knowledge'. Between the constant noise of investment chaos and pervasive misinformation, people are feeling completely overwhelmed and anxious.

While FINRA wants to educate the people around the world to understand their risk and scam related behaviour the current tools were too outdated, static and were built in 2005. So FINRA was in dire need of new tools that are modular, focus on different investment categories like crypto, stocks, memecoin, etc.

FINRA's current Scam meter tool

Solution

"We didn't just build a quiz, we co-created a 'safe sandbox' for learning through two distinct, high-impact tools within the FINRA Resilience Framework:

  • Tool 1: The Risk Meter: This tool maps the user's personal investor mindset and risk tolerance through narrative-driven scenarios .

  • Tool 2: The Scam Meter: This tool tests the user's ability to spot real-world fraud—like fake IPOs or influencer 'guarantees'—using behavior-driven questions .

We moved away from immediate feedback to keep the user engaged in the journey. Now, everything leads to a detailed Resilience Report at the end that gives a score out of 100. To keep users in the FINRA ecosystem, the report identifies their 'Areas of Low Awareness' and links them directly to tailored articles and videos, giving them a clear path to improve their financial IQ .

Impact

The final presentation was a total win. FINRA immediately moved the solution into development, and it’s currently scheduled to go live in 2026. By moving from 'just a score' to a 'learning ecosystem,' we created a sustainable model that builds real-world cognitive resilience for millions of investors.

Glimpse of the team working behind the scenes

CONTEXT

The existing tools Risk Meter and Scam Meter had become static and were failing to engage a new generation of investors. FINRA’s goal was to co-create the "Next Evolution of Investor Education" by moving away from information overload and toward a solution that empowers investors with actual cognitive skills.

While it is extremely rare for student concepts to move into actual production, the FINRA Resilience Framework is a truly exceptional case—it was so successful that it is currently under implementation for a Q1 2026 global launch.

PROBLEM

02

Modern investors are trapped in a "crisis of knowledge" fueled by crypto-chaos and pervasive misinformation. Through our research, we identified a dangerous "learn by losing" mentality, where users believe losing their savings is a necessary "tuition" for learning the market.

Existing educational tools have become static and fail to bridge the "Worry Paradox", a phenomenon where investors feel high anxiety about fraud yet continue to engage in high-risk behaviors because they lack the cognitive skills to spot red flags.

OPPORTUNITIES

05

Crazy 8

To explore solutions for our HMW questions, our UX team conducted a Crazy 8s sprint, a rapid ideation exercise where each member sketched 8 ideas in 8 minutes per prompt.

After the sprint, we reviewed and voted on the strongest ideas, then refined and combined them into three cohesive UX concepts.

Character ideations

While we were still trying to use Finra's mascot, designing for the character was something that was a great task, I saw this as a great opportunity to use finley to grab the GenZ's attention.

SOLUTION

06

With all the intense process and going through endless revisions and doing stakeholder meetings, co-creation sessions we finalized a design.

150+ wireframes and iterations

While we were consistently trying to merge the playfulness and the regulatory energy of FINRA, my UX team was endlessly pushing limits, their contribution along with my design leadership was the key to shaping the solutions and ensuring that we deliver them more than what they need. If it was not for my UX team the project surely would have not been this huge success.

LEARNINGS

08

1. Systems Thinking at Scale When you are handed wireframes for 150+ screens, you can't just design them one by one. I learned to think in systems—creating scalable components and patterns that could adapt across the entire platform. Taking ownership of the majority of these high-fidelity designs taught me how to maintain consistency while moving fast to meet delivery timelines.

2. The Aesthetic of Efficiency (Function > Form) I learned that for a Warehouse Manager or a Procurement Officer, "beauty" isn't a pretty gradient—it's speed. These are people who value time above all else. I shifted my focus from making a "good-looking" UI to a "usable" UI. I realized that in Enterprise B2B, removing friction is the highest form of design.

3. Translating Data into Solutions This project taught me the true value of research data. It wasn't just about collecting numbers; it was about translating that raw data into tangible design solutions—like turning the "high drop-off rate" stat into the "One-Step Checkout" feature.

4. The Power of Micro-Interactions Prototyping was one of the most enjoyable parts of this journey. I learned that micro-interactions (like a subtle hover state or a loading animation) aren't just "delighters"—they are critical communication tools that tell the user the system is working.

5. Ownership & Collaboration While I led the visual execution and delivered the vast majority of the screens, I learned the importance of leaning on my team. My manager and teammate were crucial in unblocking me during critical crunches. Delivering this massive scope on time proved to me that I can handle complex, large-scale enterprise challenges.
